Because of the increase in anti-Muslim sentiment, Semi Korycki transformed his lens onto a little Sunni Muslim society known as gloss Tatars or Lipka Tatars within his local Poland
The Podlasie area for north-eastern Poland is home to a small Sunni Muslim area labeled as gloss Tatars or Lipka Tatars, that decided there for over 300 decades. Photographer Selim Korycki is just one of the 3000 Poles with Tatar history.
For hundreds of years, the Tatar family relations on his father’s part resided in what is known today as Grodno Region of Belarus. Like many more Tatar someone not able to come back to their unique ancestral land after the 2nd World War, his group relocated to Gdansk. Several other Polish Tatars transferred to Wroclaw, Szczecin, Gorzow Wielkopolski and Bialystok. A year ago, the guy started to explore his family history therefore the established society of Polish Tatars in north-eastern Poland.
“Despite are mentioned as an atheist, I became always extremely familiar with my family background plus the reputation for Lipka Tatars. After many conversations about rising nationalism and Islamophobia, I realised so just how few men and women are conscious of the Muslim community peacefully settled in the heart of Europe for more than 600 many years.
